The BCG matrix categorizes a corporation business by growth rate and relative market share which helps managers decide how to invest corporate funds (Williams, 2010). Within the BCG matrix there is four categories based on how fast the market is growing and size of the company. From top to bottom you have four categories’: stars, question marks, cash cows, and dogs. I would personally consider the SUV and truck lines to be â€Å"dogs†. This part of the company is a small share and at the present tim e has a slow growing market. The best situation would be to stop producing SUV’s and trucks and start producing smaller cars that are more environmentally friendly and cost less on gas. The SUV and truck line can still come back in time but for now try and focus on the market of today. The third option is to sell the Premium Auto Group (PAG). The PAG is also a â€Å"dog†. The premium cars such as Aston-Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Volvo brands are producing such little if any profit it would be easier to let someone else figure out how to make money on selling such a small amount. They are losing billions year after year they should sell and let someone else figure how to turn their â€Å"dogs† into â€Å"stars†. The three options available I would recommend selling the premium auto group.Show MoreRelatedBusiness Analysis- Ford Motor Company Essay2411 Words   |  10 PagesBusiness Analysis Part III Nancy Holly MGT/521 Management January 27, 2012 Jim O’Keeffe, Facilitator Abstract A financial analysis of Ford Motor Company’s (Ford) statements will identify their solvency in today’s automobile market. The Price of Progress How Much Are We Willing to Pay

The Price of Progress: How Much are We Willing to Pay? In this day and age, various terms associated with economic development came about as means of measuring the well-being of each individual in the society such as per capita income, gross domestic product (GDP), gross national product (GNP), unemployment rate, literacy rate, and many more. The emergence of these terminologies is due to the consideration of government planners of each nation to make a step forward to reach economic development. Of course, compromises should be done in order to acquire the advantages brought about by the ideology of progress. But if you will come to think of it, what is the price to achieve them and how much are we willing to pay? The government†¦show more content†¦These effects are suffered by the tribal people upon forcefully taking part in the world-economy market. Their state of self-sufficiency vanished along with the changes to take the step â€Å"forward†. Also, the present society having higher rates of malnutrition and crime, and depleting natural resources shows a lowered standard of living since these problems did not exist before. However, this argument can be viewed in which these problems might already be occurring a long time ago but it is not noted since there are no records or methods devised to acquire the necessary information. It is difficult to verify this claim because of the lack of information. Another argument presented is that economic development increases the occurrence of diseases by the sudden vulnerability of people to different kinds of bodily diseases, traditional environmental diseases, and poverty diseases. These are evident in the society that could have their roots from the deterioration of natural resources because of pollution that can greatly affect the health conditions of the people. It is sad to say that the drastic changes happening holds true in almost every nation. Juvenile Delinquency Essay Paper Example For Students

Juvenile Delinquency Essay Paper Remember doing something mischievous or wrong when you were a kid and getting the label delinquent slapped on you ? Did you ever wonder what it meant ? That is what my topic for today is . . . juvenile delinquency. In this report I will: define juvenile delinquency, give the extent of juvenile delinquency, give some suggestions on what causes juvenile delinquency, and what is being done in various communities to deal with this growing problem. The legal term juvenile delinquent was established so that young lawbreakers could avoid the disgrace of being classified in legal records as criminals. Juvenile delinquency laws were designed to provide treatment, rather than punishment, for juvenile offenders. Young delinquents usually are sent to juvenile courts, where the main aim is to rehabilitate offenders, rather than to punish them. But the term juvenile delinquency itself has come to imply disgrace in todays society. A youngster can be labeled a delinquent for breaking any one of a number of laws, ranging from robbery to running away from home. But an action for which a youth may be declared a delinquent in one community may not be against the law in another community. In some communities, the police ignore many children who are accused of minor delinquencies or refer them directly to their parents. But in other communities, the police may refer such children to a juvenile court, where they may officially be declared delinquents. Crime statistics, though they are often incomplete and may be misleading, do give an indication of the extent of the delinquency problem. The FBI reports that during the early 1980s, about two-fifths of all arrests in the United States for burglary and arson were of persons under the age of 18. Juveniles also accounted for about one-third of all arrests for larceny. During any year, about 4 % of all children between the ages of 10 and 18 appear in a juvenile court. The percentage of youngsters in this group who are sent to court at least once is much higher. A third or more of those boys living in the slum areas of large cities may appear in a juvenile court at least once. Girls are becoming increasingly involved in juvenile delinquency. Today, about one of every five youngsters appearing in juvenile court is a girl. In the early 1900s, this ratio was about 1 girl to every 50 or 60 boys. Sociologists have conducted a number of studies to determine how much delinquency is not reported to the police. Most youngsters report taking part in one or more delinquent acts, though a majority of the offenses are minor. Experts have concluded that youthful misbehavior is much more common than is indicated by arrest records and juvenile court statistics. Many studies have been made in an effort to determine the causes of delinquency. Most of these have focused on family relationships or on neighborhood or community conditions. The results of these investigations have shown that it is doubtful that any child becomes a delinquent for any single reason. Family Relationships, especially those between parents and individual children, have been the focus of several delinquency studies. An early study comparing delinquent and nondelinquent brothers showed that over 90 % of the delinquents had unhappy home lives and felt discontented with their life circumstances. Only 13 % of their brothers felt this way. Whatever the nature of the delinquents unhappiness, delinquency appeared to them to be a solution. It brought attention to youths neglected by their parents, or approval by delinquent friends, or it solved problems of an unhappy home life in other ways. More recent studies have revealed that many delinquents had parents with whom they did not get along or who were inconsistent in their patterns of discipline and punishment. Neighborhood conditions have been stressed in studies by sociologists. .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3 , .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3 .postImageUrl , .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3 , .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3:hover , .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3:visited , .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3:active { border:0!important; } .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3:active , .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3 .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ue723b38f2aaf1ab81a3d7ea29d3b82f3:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: All Is Not Well In the Land of The Lion King Essay Many of these inquiries concentrate on differing rates of delinquency, rather than on the way individuals become delinquents. A series of studies have shown that delinquency rates are above average in the poorest sections of cities. Such areas have many broken homes and a high rate of alcoholism. They also have poor schools, high unemployment, few recreational facilities, and high crime rates. Many young people see delinquency as their only escape from boredom, poverty, and other problems. Social scientists have also studied the influence of other youngsters on those who commit delinquencies. For example, they point out that most youngsters who engage in delinquent behavior do so with other juveniles and often in organized gangs. Studies indicate that the causes of delinquency also extend to a whole society. For example, delinquency rates tend to be high among the low-income groups in societies where most people are well-to-do. The pain of being poor and living in slum conditions are felt more strongly in a rich society than in a poor one. Many efforts have been made to develop programs of delinquency prevention. There is little evidence, however, that any of these programs is truly effective. Some programs provide counseling services to youths who appear to be on the verge of becoming delinquents. Other programs draw youngsters into clubs and recreational centers in an effort to keep them away from situations in which delinquency is likely to occur. In recent years, many efforts have centered on improving the educational and work skills of youngsters. For those juveniles who have already become delinquents, there are programs designed to prevent them from committing future delinquent acts. Probation services are offered through juvenile courts in an effort to provide guidance for delinquent children. The more progressive institutions for juveniles attempt to provide treatment programs for offenderswork experiences, counseling, education, and group therapy. However, many other institutions provide little more than protective custody for juvenile delinquents. In conclusion, I have defined juvenile delinquency, explained the extent of juvenile delinquency, gave some suggestions on what causes juvenile delinquency, and what is being done in various communities to deal with the problem of juvenile delinquency.Category: Social Issues

A Voice for the Hurt High school is supposed to be a fun, new, and exciting experience. The novel Speak is about a social outcast named Melinda and her struggles to fit in in high school. She doesn’t have any true friends because no one stays around long enough to hear her story. The book is written by Laurie Halse Anderson. Throughout the novel Melinda shows her emotional discomfort through actions instead of speaking out. In the end she speaks up for herself and she finds a happier state of being. In the beginning of the novel Melinda enters high school being shunned by all of her old friends and even people she has never met before because she called the cops at a party at the beginning of the summer. Melinda hides her feelings and doesn’t speak out about what really happened that night. Instead of speaking she silences herself by her actions. We will write a custom essay sample on Speak Essa or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page An example of this is how she constantly bites her lips. The fist example of this is right in the beginning of the novel when Melinda’s ex best friend mouths â€Å"I hate you,† to her from across the room. Melinda bit her lip and tried not to think about it (Anderson 5). She continues to do this to remind herself to stay silent throughout the novel. Melinda silences herself many other ways too. One of the most intense ways of this is when she cut herself with a paper clip. She says, â€Å"I open up the paper clip and scratch it across my left wrist. Pitiful. If suicide is a cry for help, then what is this? A whimper, a peep? (Anderson 65)† When her mom sees the cuts all she says is that she doesn’t have time to deal with it. This shows how Melinda is trying to speak through cutting herself doesn’t help. Her mom doesn’t care. Her whimper for help is not heard. She needs to speak up about how she was raped. At the end of the novel Melinda finds a happier state of being when she decides to finally speak. There are many factors that lead her to speak. One of ways she finds her voice is by standing up to Heather. Also she tells Rachel about how Andy Evans had raped trying to protect her, but Rachel doesn’t listen to her. After she wrote in the bathroom stall other girls also wrote about how much of a creep Andy is. This gives her confidence to speak out about Andy because she knows that she isn’t the only girl going through what she went through. At the very end of the novel when Andy tries to rape her again she finds her voice and says no. Once others hear about what happened they understand her story. In art a seniors asks her if she id OK and says way to go (Anderson 197). Speak is a powerful novel about a young girl who was raped. Melinda silences herself through her actions. She bites her lip as a constant reminder not to speak out. Also she cut herself with a paper clip as a whimper for help instead of just telling her parents and friends the truth. In the end she finds her voice and simply speak.

The Need For Honesty Essays - Virtue, Chinese Philosophy

The Need For Honesty The Need for People Honesty. Everyones heard the tale of the Boy who cried Wolf right? Sure, shepherd boy thinks he's funny, makes a fuss about imaginary wolfs, villagers come running - no wolf. Then when wolfs actually do come, he yells and screams, yet villagers weren't about to play his game again, his sheep get nailed by the wolves. Moral of the story. Liars are not believed even when they tell the truth The reasons people are less than truthful are many, they do it because they lack the courage to say what they think, they do it because they are comfortable in their pretensions, and they do it because they are insecure. I spent a long time asking myself why should people be straight up, what moral chains are there? It's to easy to say because society expects it, or because history has presented its heroes as paragons of virtue. No, I believe the reason to be much more selfish, the need for people to be straight-up is that individually you become better people for it. But why? Why would you be a better person for speaking the truth? If you leave behind all the morality, all the chains of ethics, all the issues of virtue. What is it? If truth was an object or feeling how would you describe it? Is it a goal to strive for? A gut feeling? An instinct to pass on your interpretation of events without deviation? Who knows exactly? All I know is that I hold it high, and I refuse to abnegate this belief for anyone, better yet I expect people to follow suit. Never am I more disconcerted than if someone I trust has lied to me, to my face, how dare they? Why do we feel this way? because we just do?...Neh.. To easy, because society demands that we do? No, I don't feel bad if someones lied to me because society says they shouldn't. No, I feel bad because I've been betrayed. I trusted them to be like me and they weren't. I trusted them to hold the same set of beliefs that I do, and they didn't. Yet the only way I can expect that of them is if I have a sure fire justification that my way is right...but I don't so where am I? Who knows? Is honesty some common unspoken societal belief? Or spawned of some religious base? Or are people only honest because they fear retribution? Are they better people for speaking it out of fear, and not obligation? These questions have been asked for centuries, the dude who told The Boy Who Cried Wolf was born in the 6thCentury Before Christ. He was a slave to Egyptian King Cleombrotus, his name was Aesop. The questions have been answered using words like nobility, integrity, and virtue. Yet none of them fit, none of them completely explain why people owe it to each other to be honest. This is because they don't owe anything to each other, they owe it to themselves. People that lie go against the grain, they are frowned upon and rightly so. Deep inside everyone knows that if they lie its wrong, a little fib here, embellishment there, whats the harm? I'll tell you what the harm is, its a *censored* load of grey in my life that I don't really need. Philosophy Essays

Hammarubi essays

Hammarubi essays King Hammurabi lived from approximately 1850-1750 B.C.E., during which time he ruled Babylonia for forty-three years. Sometime during his reign, the king created a code of laws called Hammurabis code. The code consists of laws dealing with family, property, women, slaves, and many other things. While King Hammurabi created rules for his people, the Hebrew God also created rules for his people. God gave Moses a series of laws dealing with many issues including family, property, and slaves. Even though the Babylonian and Jewish laws came from different rulers during different times, they seem to be similar in many ways. The Babylonians believed in many gods and the idea that these gods would take care of them and provide leaders for them. King Hammurabi was one of these appointed leaders. Hammurabi said that his job was, to cause righteousness to prevail in the land, to destroy the wicked and the evil, to prevent the strong from plundering the weak. Hammurabi was a just and effective ruler who left behind one of the earliest known collection of laws. While Hammurabis code does not cover the aspects of courts and procedures, it does offer a look into Babylonian culture and what was important to them. While Babylonians believed in many gods and a king who gave them their laws, the Jews believed in one God who gave them their laws. The Jewish people lived in the eastern Mediterranean area starting around 1200 B.C.E. Instead of a belief in many gods, they Stressed complete submission to the laws and commands of their omnipotent and omnipresent God, a deity whom Hebrews perceived as outside of nature and comprehensible in intellectual and abstract term, the religion focused on Gods covenant with the Hebrews and the history of their special relationship. As lawgiver and universal upholder of moral order, God is depicted in the Holy Writ of Israel as beneficent and loving but also as a stern and vengeful ...

The Relationship Between Women in Various Dimensions Research Paper

The Relationship Between Women in Various Dimensions - Research Paper Example The European community had a different perception of feminism besides advocating equal rights granted to men. The Europeans definition of feminism expressed â€Å"womanliness† that exhibited sexual diversity. With that regard, the feminist critiqued social structures and institutions for failing to provide opportunities for women with respect to their gender status. In this aspect, the goal of feminist does not focus on promoting rights and privileges granted to men but to have institutions and social structures that are inclusive of women.
